What is Biafine Topical Emulsion

What is Biafine Topical Emulsion

We have talked about Biafine Emulsion before, the same people that produce the Biafine protective cream that helps the skin to cure superficial burns. Yet, this brand created in 1971 by a light burns expert also produces other creams and products for the skin.

The one that we will explain to you in this article is the Biafine Topical Emulsion. This is a water-based emulsion created specifically for the dressing and management of superficial wounds, first and second-degree burns, radiation dermatitis, sunburns, and much more. This emulsion will stimulate the healing process by moisturizing the wound.

What Biafine Topical Emulsion will help you heal?

This Topical Emulsion is great for lighter burns and superficial wounds. It will accelerate the healing process of the following issues:

The Biafine Topical Emulsion will help you when facing nearly any first or second-degree burn. If your problem is a dermal ulcer you should consult a physician.

How to use the Biafine Topical Emulsion

Before using this product, or any skincare product, you should be careful the first time you use it in order to avoid any kind of side effects or allergic reactions. It’s important to say that the Biafine Topical Emulsion is for topical use and should be administered only if recommended by a doctor or healthcare professional.

Biafine will help you to heal most light wounds or burns, so we will divide the application process for those.

For wounds or abrasions: wounds, abrasions, full-thickness wounds, dermal graft site management, and donor site management. Wash the affected area with clean water, gauze, or saline. If applying a gauze, moisten it lightly before application.

Apply Biafine around the affected area in thick layers 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Wash away the emulsion with a saline solution or clean water. This can be done without hurting the wound.

Repeat the process every 24 to 48 hours (or as recommended) until the healing process has been completed. Do not use it on bleeding wounds until the bleeding has stopped.

First and Second-degree burns (including sunburns): Carefully remove any clothing in the affected area before applying the emulsion to burns. Apply the emulsion around the affected areas in a thick ¼ or ½ layer until the skin can no longer absorb more product. If the burning pain persists, keep the application of thinner layers of Biafine in thicker layers. Keep applying the emulsion until the wound has healed completely. If there is any physical therapy you should continue using the Biafine Topical Emulsion.

For radiation dermatitis: Apply a generous amount of the emulsion to the treated area, massaging it until the emulsion has been completely absorbed. This process should be repeated three times each day, seven days a week until the skin has fully recovered. Don’t interrupt applications if the patient is going through radiation therapy, even for one day. (Don’t apply the emulsion less than four hours prior to the radiation session)

Things to Keep in Mind

Before finishing reading this article, it’s crucial for you to know that Biafine is contraindicated on skin rashes related to food or medicine allergies, or when an allergy to one of the ingredients is known. It is one of the best French skincare products available on the market.

Also, if your condition doesn’t improve in 10-14 days stop using it and consult your doctor. Furthermore, if there is any sign of allergic reaction or side effect, stop the application immediately. However, the Biafine Topical Emulsion is a great product, widely used not only in France but in the world, to treat this kind of burns and other skin problems.
